School Improvement Plan

As required by the North Carolina General Statute and Nash County Schools Board Policy, each School Improvement Team has collaborated on creating a school improvement plan for the next two academic school years. Each respective school staff has voted to approve their plans before finally being reviewed and approved by the Board of Education.

School Improvement Plan Goal 1

By June 2024, D.S. Johnson will “Exceed Growth” in all EOGs. The school performance grade will increase a minimum of one letter grade through the implementation of grade appropriate and standard-based lessons throughout instruction.

A2.05 All teachers develop weekly lesson plans based on aligned units of instruction

A4.01 The school implements a tiered instructional system that allows teachers to deliver evidence-based instruction aligned with the individual needs of students across all tiers.

B3.03 The principal monitors curriculum and classroom instruction regularly and provides timely, clear, constructive feedback to teachers.

C2.01 The LEA/School regularly looks at school performance data and aggregated classroom observation data and uses that data to make decisions about school improvement and professional development needs.

D1.02 The LEA/School has aligned resource allocation (money, time, human resources) within each school’s instructional priorities.

School Improvement Plan Goal 2

By June 2024 staff will be empowered to create a collaborative work environment and school culture with shared values, beliefs, and vision to establish school identity, school community, and culturally responsive climate for students thereby decreasing discipline referrals and referrals resulting in out of school suspension by 50%.

During the 2023-24 school year systemic support systems will be implemented to retain highly qualified teachers as measured by teacher turnover rate at or below 5%.
